SECTION 230, CONTENT MODERATION, AND SOCIAL MEDIA
The liability protections provided social media platforms under Section 230 are increasingly controversial on both sides of the aisle. Republicans view it as a cover for platforms to censor conservatives, while Democrats believe it exposes users to harassment and discrimination while shielding the platforms from responsibility. This session will explore the First Amendment concerns around the issue, with Bob Corn-Revere of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, and also will cover industry’s efforts to self-regulate to reduce ad monetization of marketing messages that are placed adjacent to misinformation or other objectionable content on social media, with Eric D. Reicin, CEO of BBB National Programs.
