As we pass the one-year mark since the WHO announced a global pandemic, the crisis has forced a reckoning with persisting inequalities. During this time, dentsu and ANA’s SeeHer collaborated on an original study surveying consumers’ perception of the state of gender equality.
Throughout our series of three reports, we’ve seen that, regardless of gender, race/ethnicity or age, women’s equality is a very important issue for the vast majority of consumers. However, as we’ve peeled back the onion, we’ve also seen that men and women have divergent viewpoints about the level of progress made, that Black, Hispanic and Latinx women face compounded barriers, and that Gen Z feels a unique urgency to act.
Our study also found that the majority of consumers feel brands have a responsibility in driving social change and recognize media’s role in shaping gender norms. It is our hope that the findings help illuminate the actions we – as the marketing community and as individuals – can take to further equality.
