For October’s meeting, Dorsey & Whitney LLP’s presentation will include: (i) a federal regulatory update; (ii) a discussion of recent federal false advertising cases; (iii) a review of recent NAD cases; (iv) TCPA updates; and (v) CCPA privacy law developments. Presenting will be Sandra Edelman, Sarah Robertson, Tiffany Shimada, Scott Goldsmith, and Robert Cattanach.
Sandra Edelman, Partner, has deep experience in advertising claims review as well as advertising and promotional content in both traditional and social media rounds out Sandy’s full-service advice practice, making her a valuable asset to clients looking to grow and/or protect their market share. When disputes arise, Sandy is able to play a central role in resolving them. She acts as lead counsel in NAD advertising challenges, trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings and ex parte appeals before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
Robert Cattanach, Partner, helps clients navigate the complexities of regulatory law, especially in the area of cybersecurity and compliance, and provides the perspective and skills of a seasoned trial lawyer to protect their interests. His technical background and business savvy enable him to understand the challenges of today’s cyber world and evolving privacy regulations. Bob works collaboratively with clients to determine their regulatory obligations, evaluate risk tolerances, and find optimal solutions in the evolving world of data collection, use, sharing and ultimately safe destruction.
Scott Goldsmith, Partner, brings the tenacity of a former prosecutor to his representation of clients in high-stakes commercial litigation and class action defense. Having tried over twenty cases through final jury verdict, and over one hundred fifty evidentiary hearings, Scott understands that effective advocacy requires creativity, composure, and thorough preparation. Scott routinely defends clients in nationwide class litigation, with particular emphasis on alleged violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
Sarah Robertson, Partner, has extensive experience in a wide scope of corporate and commercial agreements and transactions involving intellectual property, and assisting with the day-to-day needs of clients. She clears, registers and enforces brand names in the U.S. and internationally. She handles sales and distribution issues, as well as complex licensing matters.
She represents clients in Trademark Trial and Appeal Board proceedings and in disputes involving intellectual property, including mobile app and domain name conflicts. She also counsels’ clients on marketing, advertising, contest and online reputation management issues.
Tiffany Shimada, Associate, has a background in IP valuation, deeply understands and respects the worth of intangible assets and enjoys helping clients maximize their value.
As a trademark lawyer, Tiffany works with brand owners and managers from around the world to enforce and protect their IP in the following industries: cosmetics, financial services, biotechnology, geophysics, food and beverage, outdoor sports and hunting, logistics, direct marketing, online marketplaces, entertainment, software as a service (SAAS), social media, health care, apparel, renewable energy, retail, hospitality, and aviation.
